Common Name: Socotra Island Blue
Scientific Name: Monocentropus balfouri
Status: Captive Bred
Country of origin - Socotra (an island off of Africa)
Habitat: Ground dwelling
Suitability: Calm for an African tarantula!
My Opinion:
If the Socotra Island Blue was summed up in one word it would be 'stunning'. This spider has amazing colours, a creamy tan body, metallic blue/silver carapace and bright blue legs. They are highly regarded in the tarantula hobby and many people swear that they can be kept communally (a real bonus). I have no experience of this and the price they cost me, I have no intention of trying it out! They like to build extensive webs and quite often hide in them. When challenged they may threaten a little but prefer to retreat and rarely seem aggressive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is difficult to give a size for the spiders as stock is constantly changing. Generally, the small size is a spiderling up to 1cm body length (small will be SMALL), juvenile is a grown on spiderling with a body length of 1cm to 2cm, medium 2cm to 4cm and a large is 4cm to fully adult (but a lot depends on the species!)
I am happy to send a photo of any size tarantula spider that you are interested in, just email me!
All spiders are unsexed unless stated.
