Another successful week
Another successful week with lots of orders placed and several new reviews received. I’m always full of ‘good ideas’ (as I see it) but some ideas work and some don’t. The monthly review competition has worked better than I could ever have hoped for, so I am now running a new monthly competition. I added the details to the slip of paper that I send out with each order, explaining how to enter but it looked too messy so I have given up on that, I am mentioning it here and I will put it on my Facebook page when I get a chance. Basically, I would like you to let me know if you find any mistakes on the website such as spellings, wrong dates, updated tarantula names (they seem to constantly change). It is very difficult to proof read your own work and there is an awful lot of information on my website.
I have asked many times before and sometimes I do receive emails pointing out a problem but people often apologise for pointing out mistakes. There is certainly nothing to apologise for, it is extremely helpful when I’m informed because then I can put it right. So, basically it is much the same as the review competition. If you find a mistake give me a call or drop me an email and your name will then go into the hat at the end of the month. If your name is drawn as the winner you will received a code that entitles you to free postage on your next order (valid for six months). If you find more than one mistake, your name will go in as many times as you find mistakes! Hopefully there aren’t that many to find but who knows? The monthly winner will be announced on here and my Facebook page and of course the code will be emailed to them.
The competition will be fairly run, I mentioned to a few people that I was surprised when the January competition was won by a person who had only submitted one review, when others had submitted several and therefore had several more chances. I was really surprised that every one of those people told me it was my competition and I could choose who I wanted. Most of you will know by now that my hobby is entering competitions and I would not dream of ‘rigging it’. At this time, there are only two entries in the Mistakes competition but there are already six entries in the Review competition. The idea of course is to improve my website as much as I can. I cannot afford a personalised website written especially for me but Super Simon (my website guy) does a very good job and I try my best too.
I had a lovely birthday last Friday and thanks for all your best wishes. I got amazing presents from both my wonderful kids. My daughter has arranged for her and I to attend a Binturong experience. I cannot believe she managed to arrange this for me. I was talking to a friend of mine only the night before. He came over to collect some Giant snails for a half term event. He runs an animal rescue business throughout Europe and deals with many zoos. I was moaning that I have never got close to a Binturong, Chessington World of Adventures only let kids get close enough to sniff one and evidently they smell like popcorn. I was moaning how unfair it all was and then the next day my daughter presented me with a certificate detailing the experience. For those who don’t know a Binturong is also known as a Bearcat, they are amazing, beautiful creatures and certainly one of my favourites. We will also get to pet a raccoon and a Possum. I have loved racoons ever since we went to Mexico a few years ago, as soon as the sun went down the hotel gardens came alive with them. They are clever little creatures and eat anything they can lay their hands on and their hands are so cute too!
I am really going on and on this week and I don’t think I have mentioned any bugs! I will save my son’s present until next week’s blog. It is certainly worth waiting for! The bugs and spiders are all doing well, I can’t believe how many baby millipedes I have now. At last I seem to have cracked it when it comes to breeding them. I wish I could say the same for scorpions. I fear that my huge Giant Shiny Burrowing scorpion is more likely to die than give birth now. I have yet again moved her as I found she kept sitting in her water bowl. I have put her in a warm and humid box with several burrows to choose from but it’s just instinct that tells me there is a problem and she won’t make it. I have several Asian Blue Forest scorpions that I think are gravid so I am hanging onto them in anticipation. I hope to get some more scorpions to sell very soon. I am trying but there don’t seem to be many around at the moment. I intend to have a ring around over the weekend and see if I can track some down.
I could go on and on but it will all have to wait until next week. I am starving hungry, it is way past my dinner time. I usually write my blog in the morning and I often start it the day before but yesterday I had a houseful of people here as my niece was visiting from Luxembourg and today I have had a multitude of things to do in the bug room.
